SWITCH-specialty: the Internet

SWITCH is a partner of the Swiss university community. The non-profit organization  develops internet services for teachers, researchers and students. These includes inter alia solutions for virtual project work, online lectures, the protection from internet attacks or systems that facilitate managing lifelong learning. The services that SWITCH has developed for universities, SWITCH offers also to commercial customers, such as for example in the area of ​​security.

SWITCH has brought the internet to Switzerland over 25 years ago and is still responsible for the registration of domain names ending in  .ch. These are among the safest in the world.

SWITCH and IPv6

As a Swiss Internet pioneer SWITCH welcomes the rapid introduction of IPv6, which is crucial for the future of the Internet. Therefore, the Swiss Foundation encourages colleges for years to make their websites fit for the new version of the Internet Protocol.

Since 2006, IPv6 is reality in the scientific network of SWITCH. The high-speed fiber optic network connects all Swiss universities to each other and to the Internet.
